FAQ

Q: What is the price of Pocket METAR?
A: Nothing, it is free.

Q: What can it do for me?
A: It will store information of airports for you, download METAR reports for the airports and do wind calculations based on wind speed and angle.

Q: I did not find my home airport in the database, how do I get that?
A: Check the download section of the Pocket METAR web and see if you can locate a database file that includes your required airport. If so, download the file and open the database.

A: I downloaded an airport database file, how do I import it to my Pocket PC ?
Q: Use ActiveSynch to convert and transfer it. This page explains how to do it.

Q: I checked your web but did not found a suitable database, am I out of luck?
A: You can enter the airports you want to have in a database by hand. Download the empty database from my web and rename it to something suitable. Then start to enter the airports you want to include.

Q: I created a new database or updated an existing one, do you want to have a copy?
A: Yes, please send me a copy and I will put it on my web (you will get credit for it).

Q: I just created a new database, how do I get Pocket METAR to update the METAR reports for the new airports?
A: Most of our databases that you download from this web comes with pre-stored URL:s that will work for most part of the worlds. If they do not suit you, then you will have to find a web page that publish METAR reports for the airports you have entered, if there is several different web pages use the one that give the most current reports, Then enter the URL:s in to the URL fields in the settings.

Q: What is "Backup METAR URL" used for?
A: Version 0.81 started to use this field to locate a second server and run an extra download pass. This is useful if the primary Server temporary goes off-line, Pocket METAR will still be able to receive information from the second URL. Obviously, you have to have differents URL:s in Primary and secondary for this to be useful.

Q: English is not my native language, can I get Pocket METAR in my own language?
A: Yes you can. Download a language file from my web and follow the instructions on this page.

Q: I did not find a suitable language file. Can I do my own translation?
A: Yes you can. Follow the instructions on this page.

Q: I found an error in the software that I believe is a bug, will you fix it?
A: Yes if the bug effects a great deal of users. Send in a report on how to recreate the bug, if it is dependent on a specific setting or database, please include this in you E-mail. As I do this on my spare time I can not guarantee that it will be fixed in a timeframe expected by you, but I am very interested to receive bug information. Send them to harry@debugsoft.com .

Q: When I use the Menu option "Update METAR" I get an error message saying "An error was encountered while running this program." why?
A: Your Pocket PC probably have no connection to the Internet that is needed to update METAR. Make sure that Internet is working by opening up Internet Explorer and open up an web page.
