Zakk Wylde's Black Label Society Midnight Rodeo, Albuquerque, USA - 2 apr 2003 On April, Zakk Wylde's Black Label Society rolled into town for a small show at a local bar called Midnight Rodeo. This bar is technically a country bar but has been remodeled on the outside to look like an abandoned industrial site. It's a great place to see shows like this. It's a pretty big place and the sound is generally very good. An unknown four-piece band who, if I recall, did not even state their name, opened the show. Not all that good. Three chicks, a singer with a great pair of fake tits, girl guitar player, girl bass player, male drummer, I bet he has fun on tour! Next up, Nashville Pussy. This band has been banging around for quite awhile. Again, another co-ed group, a male singer/guitar player, male drummer, female bassist, and a female LEAD guitar player. This chick could actually rock when she stood still. This band is very energetic and sounds a lot like a revved up AC/DC. By the end of their show the lead guitar player had stripped down to her bra and panties and was performing lewd sex acts on a long neck Budweiser. Do not take your kids to this show. Finally it was time for Black Label Society! I have to tell you this band and Zakk Wylde are quickly becoming my favorite. If you like loud, rude, heavy as hell metal, and who doesn't, this band is for you. BLS opened the show with a track off the new album, " Blessed Hellride" called "Stoned and Drunk". The band also played "Stillborn" and "Funeral Bell" off the new album. Usually, when a band drops new stuff in concert, off an album that hasn't even come out yet, the crowd doesn't really react. This new material was so good the crowd went nuts! BLS played several songs off the previous disks including "Junkies of Genocide", "All For You", and "Ain't Life Grand". The show seemed very short, especially since Zakkhas five albums to pull songs from and there was no encore at the end of the show. This guy is all business. The highlight of the night was when Zakk dedicated a song to the war effort and the late great Randy Castillo, who as you may know did drumming duties for the Crue and Ozzy. This was especially cool since Randy is from Albuquerque! The song was "War Pigs" from Black Sabbath. This was without a doubt the best version of that song ever played! It was incredible! I got goose bumps and it made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Hell, it made the hair all over my body stand up and I'm bald! Amazingly, Zakk was able to sound exactly like Ozzy. There were about four hundred people in attendace, which is pretty good, when he came here on the "Stronger Than Death" tour, only about seventy-five people showed up. All of these people were singing along to every word. Overall this was a very cool show. Zakk Wylde, in my opinion, is the best metal guitarist out there today. I believe he is now touring with Ozzy on the Ozzfest string of tours. If you get a chance to see either the Ozzfest or Black Label Society don't pass it up. Drew Olmsted
