El Caco The Search The first band I'm checking out is a band called El Caco, and their album " The Search' El Caco sounds like it's Spanish. El, meaning "the" and Caco meaning...Caco. Who are they: Not real sure. Checked out the site and the first thing I see is that they are having technical difficulties (remember, my foot, Bill's nuts) and there's not a lot of info. No names on any of these guys. So we're off to a good start here. First Impressions: From the opening chord I said, "damn, typical nu metal thing going on here." The standard dropped tuning and first five fret one finger business going on here. Not complaining, I like a lot of that stuff but there's so much out there it is real hard to stand out and not sound like a thousand other bands. I was very surprised to hear the singer actually sing. The Breakdown: Like I said the singer actually tries to sing on this. The guy, to me, sounds a lot like Phil Lewis from LA Guns. Very unusual, to hear that kind of voice over this type of music. The first tune, "Someone new" is a decent one. Sounds like a song about a chick. That is something new in today's metal. Hope started to rise on the second song, "Stuck to Deteste"I was really digging the punk styled singing and guitar riffs over the verse sections. Overall though, there's really nothing big or memorable here. The band does try to cover a lot of ground. Like I said, real vocals, the standard nu metal tone, then some punk style and finally some clean guitar almost love song. Final thoughts: I've got to give these guys credit for the singing. The singer isn't going to win any awards but at least the voice is original and refreshing to hear. In the end that was the only thing that separated this disc from so many others I have heard lately. The band really tries to cover a lot of ground. Some people will rip a band that's all over the map and doesn't really stick to one format. I'm cool with it. They just need to harness that and get better at it. I'd give it 2 enchilada plates out of five. Betyg:
