Intervju - Johnny Dee, Britny Fox / Doro 1. What are you up to right now? I'm on a break from the Doro 'FIGHT' tour. It's been our longest and most successful tour yet. Over 140 shows in 20 countries. We just returned from Australia & Thailand and we'll finish up the year with another run through Europe and Doro's 20-year anniversary show in her hometown of Düsseldorf, Germany. I also recorded a few tracks on guitarist Jack Frost's new solo CD 'FROST' (Sanctuary Records). As far as Britny Fox...we are working on getting a tour together for the new CD. 2. After 12 years in silence Britny Fox just released a new album called Springhead Motorshark. Please, tell us all about the new release.
There is quite a variety of songs and styles on it because so much time has passed since our last studio record. 3. Tell us something about recording or playing the songs from: Britny Fox - Great tunes. That record put us on the map. A great time for the band. Going from the small clubs of Philly to arenas around the world and lots of airtime on MTV and selling a ton of records. Boys In Heat - We were coming off a huge year but things were starting to come unraveled. That CD had some great material on it and we had our first radio success with "Dream On" but Dean was becoming unbearable. Bite Down Hard - Arguably our best CD. We became more of a band with the addition of Tommy and it shows in the material. 4. During the making of Bite Down Hard, Poison's Rikki Rockett and Ozzy's Zakk Wylde showed up and participated in the recordings. Tell us a cool story about the boys "helping" you out. When we arrived in LA to enter the studio, Ozzy was just finishing up the recording of 'No More Tears'. Since we were using the same studio and producers, we ending up hanging out a bit together. In between playing games of Madden Football, we asked Zack to rip out a solo on a tune. He's a fuckin' madman. Rikki and I got to be friends during our tour together and we kept in touch. Toward the end of our sessions, we started talking about adding a percussion section to our cover of Midnite Moses. I knew Rik had tons of percussion stuff and that he'd have fun with it so I asked him to come down. He's a great guy as well. 5. How come you ended up in the movies, and on the soundtracks to, Iron Eagle II and Nintendo White Knuckle Scorin'? We really had nothing to do with the Iron Eagle thing, Columbia just used one of the extra tracks from the first record. But the Nintendo song (Turn On) was written especially for that CD. We liked the song so much, we threw it on the live CD as well. 6. During the timeperiod 1988-89 Britny Fox sold more than one million albums, played for over 625,000 fans and also won Metal Edge Magazine's 1988 Reader's Choice Award for Best New Band. Tell us how all that success affected you as a person. It was all good. To experience all of that cool stuff after working towards it for a long time was really special. I had a blast and have some great memories. ![]() Britny Fox 7. How is it different playing in front of audiences now as opposed to back in the metal heyday? It's basically the same...I always try to put out the same energy when I play and some audiences are better than others. Obviously, when you have a successful record you don't have to work as hard to win them over! 8. How do you feel you have grown both professionally and musically through the years? I've learned to adapt to all kinds of situations. From small clubs to huge festivals, from opener to headliner. All the gigs I've done have prepared me for almost anything. 9. Who were your influences/favourite bands growing up? I was influenced by everything I heard growing up. Songs on the radio, Motown, The Beatles and all the late 60's/70's bands. I was lucky to have an older sister who had a great record collection. The first heavy bands that really made an impact were Alice Cooper, Kiss and Deep Purple. From there I got into just about everything else. 10. Name the 3 highlights and the 3 low points of your music career? That's a tough one. I'm just very thankful that I can do something I love for a living and the highs and lows are all part of it. 11. What are some of your personal vices outside of music? I am a food freak. I love to cook and eat all kinds of cuisine. ![]() 12. You and singer Tommy Paris have your own band called Uncle Edna. Please tell us what must need to be known about the band. It's balls-out, insane, heavy, mayhem with melodic vocals and a groove. We recorded a 5 song demo CD and sold some over the internet. Unfortunately, the band never reached it's full potential. My only hope is that we can get some more music out there soon. 13. If a person wants to buy one of the Britny Fox albums, but just have the money for one of them, which one would you recommend him/her to start with, and why? I would say 'Long Way To Live!' because I think it captures the band at it's best. It includes a lot of our best songs and with Tommy singing the old stuff, it sounds killer. 14. Your crowning achievement in life will hopefully be what? Not giving up on the dream. Britny Fox - Official website Doro - Official website Johnny Dee - Official website
