Foto: Erika Taylor Intervju - Tyla, Dogs d´Amour 1. What are you up to right now? I just got back from touring Germany, Denmark, Holland and Switzerland. I have a new cd coming out in a couple of weeks called 'Life or Death? I will be playing in the UK to promote it. Im still trying to get distribution deals in different countries but as usual no record companies are interested so i continue to distribute it myself with some help from Cargo records UK. 2. Which are your all time favourite authors? If this had been 10 years ago i would have just said Bukowski and all that mob. Nowadays i read such a wide variety of books there isn't enough space to write them all down.In all honesty i prefer to watch films as they don´t take up so much time. 3. Do you own a guitar that Steve James has built? No not yet. 4. We think that your poem Heading for the target of insanity is one of the best pieces of poetry ever written, tell us how/when you wrote it? What´s your opinion of it today? To tell you the truth i can't really remember that one. Im always a few steps ahead. I think it´s a bit of an overstatement to say it was the greatest, as I was drunk and the rest and I never wrote it down, just spoke into a mike one day. 5. You have a very unique style in your painting, which are your inspirations? Lots of artists were my early inspirations such as Dali, Picasso and Egon Schiele and cartoons from Walt Disney and Tex Avery. 6. How did you and the Dogs Dámour end up in Finland for the recording of The State We´re In? It was the bass player of the Dogs, Karl Watson who's girlfiend was Finnish and who's brother started a record company and signed us up. His name was Miettinen. He does a radio show in Finland now. 7. You have put out two poetry books, do you have any plans for a new on? We also understand that you are about to release an autobiography soon. Tell us about that one? My biog has been out for a few months now. It comes either alone or in the Treasure chest. There will be a more in detail version available at the end of this year (if i make the publishers deadline). Yes I´m writing another poetry book. 8. You have written many great songs over the years, is there a certain song lyric that you are especially proud of? The next one, but I like most of them. The ones I don´t like no one gets to hear, and there are plenty of those I can tell you. 9. What is your best and worst concert memory? Most of the worse concerts are in my dreams. I´m still awaiting that ´Great`gig. I do however prefer smaller gigs rather than huge ones. 10. What really happened in Lille, France in 1986 during the Dogs tour? I wrecked a hotel. OD on speed went to jail then hospital and made it back to the UK about a week later via a Spinal Tap and witness to my actual death. Freaky week in my life. 11. Your song Johnny Silvers is partially about Johnny Thunders, did you ever meet him, if so what was he like? Like anyone with a habit you are only interested in one thing. Spoke to him a few times. I just saw him as a lonely little guy, in a fucked up world. 12. What do you remember best from the following albums: The State We´re In Being very drunk and cold. Graveyard Of Empty Bottles Argueing with China records boss Derek Green about its recording and release. He didn't like it nor did he want to release it. I won and it went straight into the UK album charts at # 16. We never saw eye to eye over anything again but we were signed to them so we were fucked. The Life and Times Of A Ballad Monger The Dogs didn't have a deal but I did. I payed them to play on my record and then we went our different ways. Lullabies For Tough Guys If anyone knew the amount of hard work and time I spent on this record they would pay me on the back. Apart from the real drums and the odd bit of guest guitaring I did everything and the same with 'Life or Death?' 13. What´s your favourite wine I dont drink alcohol anymore so I don´t have one. When I did it was the cheapest strongest stuff I could get my hands on. 14. Who would feature in your ultimate super group line-up? Just because someone was great doesn't mean to say if you put all the great ones together it will be super great. These people were who they were for the simple reason that was how it was. Leave it that way. I don´t have time for hyperthetical questions. 15. What are your plans for the future? To keep on doing what I´m doing but doing it better each time.
