Alexi Laiho & Metalshrineīs Steve Mårtensson Intervju - Alexi Laiho, Children of Bodom How do you compare the latest album, Hate crew deathroll, to the previous ones. AL: I think itīs more aggressive and heavier. I think itīs the first time in the band history that the band is completely satisfied with the whole album. The way it was played, the way it sounds and production wise. I think itīs more straight forward. More melodic? AL: I donīt know. We didnīt consciously decide to do more melodic stuff, it just comes on naturally. What are youīre influenses when youīre writing music? AL: From lots of stuff that I listen to myself. From different bands and guitarrplayers. The best source of inspiration is bad feelings and just feeling pissed off. Feeling depressed or something, I meen, thatīs the best mood to write music in. How has the feed-back been so far to the new album? AL: So far itīs been really good. Much better than our previous ones. From the press and from the fans itīs been really good. The ones that didnīt like the third album are the ones that prefer the second album and now likes the fourth. So... And sales? AL: I donīt really worry about it. We wanna go forward as a band. It ainīt gonna make no sense continuing if you sell less albums. The only salefigures I know of is from Finland and Japan, and both of them have been better than before. But I donīt know anything about the european salefigures yet. You started out this tour in Finland. Howīs the reaction been so far on the tour? AL: It has been really good. Most of the shows were sold out, but I wasnīt really worried about that. I was more worried about the swedish dates. We have played here before, but havenīt really had any big success here. But then we got to Stockholm and there was like 1400 people there at our consert. And yeasterday (Gothenburg) was really good as well. Obviously weīre selling a lot more in Sweden as well than the previous ones. Any plans going over to the US and tour? AL: Yeah, I think weīre gonna tour with Dimmu Borgir in November or something like that. Headline or support? AL: No, weīre going to open up for them. What do you think about touring. What do you do on an ordinary day on the tour? AL: Before the show...just be bored, play guitarr and just hang out. After the show, get drunk and party. I see that you have alot of booze on the tour rider. (10 bottles of vodka stands on a table backstage) AL: Yeah. *laughes* Itīs true. But we never get drunk before the show, I wanna play sober. I enjoy playing so much that I donīt have to get drunk before it. What music do you listen to yourself? AL: Oh man. Itīs really hard to say, it changes all the time. Ozzy Osbourne...especially now with his guitarrplayer and all. (Zack Wylde - Alexis favourite guitarrist). I donīt know. What do you think about your supportbands on this tour then? Shadows Fall? AL: Shadows Fall rocks! Really good live band. And Soilwork? AL: We really like Soilworks music. And we really wanted to tour with them. What do you expect from tonights show (Lund, Sweden - april 21st)? AL: Itīs hard to expect anything, you know. Iīve noticed that there was a lot of people in there. Hopefully itīs gonna be a good crowd. Weīre gonna try to make them go crazy. And after Sweden youīre gonna continue travel down in Europe for more shows. And youīre playing in London as well. Is that something youīve always wanted to do since you were a young kid, play in London? AL: I guess. Itīs something different than what weīve done so far. Most of my favourite bands are american bands though. They all started out in LA, New York or what ever. But, itīs cool that we go there, itīs the first time for Children of Bodom to go to England. I donīt have any expectations at all, weīll see what happens. Do you like sports? AL: Yeah, icehockey. World championship in icehockey is coming up i may. What do you think about the finnish team? Who will win the tournament? AL: Weīre gonna kick Swedenīs ass of course. (Yeah, sure!!!) I donīt know who will win. The Chech republic team has really been good lately. Favourite finnish player? AL: Saku Koivo. Thereīs a lot of them. Is that something you like doing on you spare time. Watch sports? AL: No, icehockey is pretty much the only thing in sports that Iīm into. Formula one as well. What kind of movies do you like? AL: I like all kind of movies. Horror movies, of course, and comedies. Any favourite horror movie? AL: Stephen Kings "Shining" is pretty good. Do you read his books as well? AL: I donīt read that much. Iīm really much more into movies than reading. Finally, anything that you want to say to the swedish fans? AL: A huge thank you to everyone that has showed up at our conserts. And thank you to everyone thats been buying our albums and stuff. Children of Bodom - Official website
