![]() Foto: Robert Majd Intervjuare: Robert Majd What are you currently up to? What's up with Alice Cooper and what's up with everything else? Ryan Roxie: People told me that when we had a kid that time would start flying by....and of course, like everything else, I thought that they were just over-hyping the story. Well....having a kid is probably the only thing in this world that is NOT over-hyped!! Everything they say about it is true...and 99.9% of it is amazing....the other .01% means that I have to get up at around 6:30 am everyday!.....But to answer your question in a word....well, I can't! ...but in a few words.....time has been flying by and I'm trying to enjoy my private and professional life both to the fullest. I think I'm finding a pretty good balance of being able to play the role of Mr. Total Rock Poser at night, and Mr. Mom during the day! What will the new Alice Cooper CD ('Eyes Of Alice Cooper') sound like? RR: This album has so many faces that it might be more aptly titled, The Eyes, Ears, Nose and Mouth of Alice Cooper. He uses so many of his classic Alice Cooper voices all over the record, and the styles range from in your face gonzo rock (Backyard Brawl) to kiss your face all over on the ballads (Be with You awhile) right back to Alice's tongue and cheek humor...(The Song that Didn't Rhyme)....Put it this way....I'm not tired of listening to it yet, so that's a good sign! You have worked with a different producer than on the other two albums in the Brutal Planet-trilogy. How was that? RR: Mudrock, our producer, is hands down one of the most exciting and productive producers in the field today. He made the exact album that Alice Cooper wanted to make. AND we had a great time making it. In fact, that's what I'll remember most about this album...He said to me soon after we started to record..."Don't worry Roxie, this is gonna work....and we're gonna have fun doing it." And ya know what, he was right.....the songs, the vibe, and the attitude all came together when we needed it to and I think Mudrock did a fantastic job of capturing that energy while we were recording. What else could you ask for? You recently finished up the 'Bare Bones-tour' with Alice Cooper. Tell us what that was like, doing a scaled down show? Was it more fun? RR: I don't know if it was any more or less fun then previous shows because we always seem to have a good time when we get out there with the Coop. Like I've said before, he inspires me to rock, which in turn I hope I inspire him to roll! Ya know? I think he feeds off the bands energy, and we feed off of his. And with it scaled down, trust me, the guitars are really crankin' on this tour, and I love to play along side of Eric Dover, I just think he is one of the best. And the new guy, Chuck Garric, he's our "chick magnet". He's all cut up and lookin' like Marcus Shankenburg in his prime so needless to say, I'm always sucking in my stomach when I make my way over to stage right!....And when you talk about the drums, what more can one say then, Eric Singer...I do miss Teddy Zig-Zag on the keys though....something tells me, we'll all be touring again once the bare bones has finally been laid to rest. Will the next tour, after the CD is released, feature a scaled down show as well? RR: Yes, this next leg that kicks off in October will be the scaled down version...but to be honest with you, our "scaled down" show has more staircases and ramps and amp stacks then any other tour I've been on before. And the lightshow is a total rock show masterpiece with all the moving AND parcan lighting that one could only see at an Abba rave party!....And just because it says "bare bones", don't think we don't have a 17ft Boa Constrictor that rides on our tour bus, every night or all the musical rock ballet, or the huge back drop..hey.....wait a second, this isn't Bare Bones at all....it's The Big Rock Show!!
Do you think the tour will stop in Sweden? RR: If we don't, I'll come and play there myself in the streets when we go visit my wife's family (she's born and raised in Tyreso, just like Engviee!)...There are only 3 places I'd like to sell a bunch of records in.....1. the States, 2. Argentina, and 3. my favorite country away from home...Sweden! I saw Glamnation when you played in Sweden a couple of years ago. A really cool live-party-band! Are you still playing together? RR: Glamnation has officially retired for undisclosed medical diagnosis, bankruptcy, musical differences, drug and alcohol abuse, fear of locusts, and any other rock reasoning/excuse to break up a band...... BUT, we will come out of retirement for the right price! Still think we are a cool live party band? Ha!..... Who do you prefer having in the Alice Cooper band playing with you? RR: This is my favorite line up so far: On guitars,Eric D and Roxie (wouldn't it be weird if I didn't pick myself?), and Chuck Garric and Eric Singer pounding out the rhythm section blues..... plus like I said before, I love playing with Teddy Zig-Zag....plus that guy on lead vocals is pretty good too....what was his name?? Who were your biggest influences when you first started out and what bands are you into these days? RR: Keith Partridge and Keith Richards....as well as Peter Frampton and CheapTrick.....and also those four guys from Liverpool....I keep forgetting, whoo??? And coincidentally enough, the best band to come out in the semi-recent past is Sweden's own: The Ark....I love that band... great songs, great players....hopefully we'll tour together someday. For how long have you played guitar? Do you play any other instruments? RR: I've played for most of my life...I was very lucky, I knew what I wanted to do at a very young age so I've never really thought about anything else, unless you want to consider my brief career as a horse-racing jockey. As far as other instruments, I played drums in high school marching band, complete with the funny hat and the white shoes...infact, come on out to the show and you'll see me and Dover destroy a drum solo the way it's supposed to be destroyed! What are your hopes for the future? RR: Sex, Drugs, and World Peace... Any last message to your Swedish fans? Any question I forgot to ask? RR: Sex, Drugs, and World Peace... who's with me!?...and don't worry, I'm not talking crazy crazy drugs..... just the ones that make ya wanna go out and kiss your fellow Swede.....I figure, today Scandanavia....tommorrow the world!!
